The summer of 2007 passed far too quickly. But then again, don't they all? While we based camped out of Juneau, photo highlights of the summer also include trips to the Taku and Unuk Rivers and a trip up to Haines for the spectacular Haines Fair.

This page features the river trips. Hiking and Haines picts can be found below.

Hiking around Southeast ~ Haines & the 4th

Flying out to the Taku River in April.
Somewhere there's a river around here. In April, 17 feet of snow still covered the ground at the Taku camp. So everything was hauled in by sled or skis.
Three moose that survived the cold and snowy winter. Unfortunately, the colder weather and extremely deep snow all winter long was very hard on the deer & moose population in the Juneau area.
Looking at the Taku Glacier in April
Here's the same area, just a few months apart. Dale took this one in April.
I took this one in July. Note the difference in the amount of water. The Taku was a flood level for most of the spring due to the massive snow melt.
Who do ya love?
What a crew! Move your mouse over the picture to find out who Sparky loves the best. (Just kidding, Sparky loves everyone!)
In July Dale, Brian and I went out to the Taku river to build a wall tent for the camp next spring. The weather was particularly lovely on our last day there. Most of the below pictures are from that day.
Dave Dryer - the life of a vagabond is a splendid one.
Float plane dock in front of camp.
Dale and Brian hard at work.
Here's capt. Brian and his first mate.
Dale, Sparky and me taking the boat out to look for fish. The cold weather and extremely high water meant a terrible fishing season for most fishers on the river.
Quite a life isn't it?

Unuk River Pictures

Dave & Dale at Lake Creek Falls a tributary of the Unuk River.
Cruising out of the first canyon at Blue Falls.
Note the BIG FISH in the water, lower right corner. Is that JAWS or what?
Whoa! What a monster. This is one of the 30 fish that Dale would catch in a day of escapement sampling on the Blossom River.
Ummm. Dale. There's something behind you that I think you should know about.
Here's my man.
Rich, Roger, Dale and Dave after a hard day of work fishing at Kerr creek.
Roger & Dale coming up the first canyon of the Unuk. Note the really cool water seeping out of the lava rock behind the guys.
